In Level 3, your child will continue developing their freestyle technique while also learning a new one: the backstroke. Similar to the freestyle, the backstroke requires the same body positioning they learned in Level 2— this time, of course, on their backs. A swim evaluation of these freestyle skills is required for Level 3.
In this six-week class, your child will develop the following backstroke skills:
- Kicking: On their back with their face looking toward the ceiling, your child will learn to kick and keep their body in a straight line.
- Hip & Shoulder Rotation: They’ll add the hip and shoulder rotation to their back kicks. This sets them up to use their arms and maintain momentum in the stroke.
- Arms: Time for arms! Your child will learn how to position their arms, shoulders, and head for the proper “catch and pull” stroke.
- All Together Now: They’ll first practice these positions on the wall, then put them all together in the lane!
All classes are taught by certified swim instructors and open to swimmers of All abilities.
